The Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of the Republic of Serbia (EPA member state since 2012) in collaboration with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in the name of German Development Cooperation, organised in Belgrade on 29-30 June the Conference "Sustainable Tourism Development in the Danube Region: New Perspectives".

The conference gathered tourism policymakers and decision-makers, as well as other public and private sector stakeholders from the Danube Region and beyond, with the aim to lay the policy and strategic groundwork for the development of joint sustainable tourism products and marketing platforms in the Danube Region and beyond.

The conference was opened by Rasim Ljajić, Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications. Stefano Dominioni, Executive Secretary of the EPA on Cultural Routes, presented during the Panel session: “Bringing heritage to life through the Creative Industries” how the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe represent an opportunity for creating new and innovative forms of cultural tourism experiences.
