Jean-Philippe BOZOULS: “A longstanding tradition of co-operation with Morocco”

In his address at the parliamentary colloquy in Rabat on 28 November 2017, Jean-Philippe BOZOULS, Director of the Congress, underlined the longstanding tradition of co-operation between the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe and the Kingdom of Morocco.  The joint holding of the colloquy on “Regionalisation in Morocco: opportunities and challenges of the consolidation of decentralised governance” marks the continuation of the exchanges between the Congress and the Moroccan authorities.

“In 2010, the Chair of the commission on advanced regionalisation in Morocco, Omar AZZIMAN, consulted the Congress.  Since then, the dialogue with the Kingdom of Morocco has never stopped, and we welcome the ambitious co-operation now taking shape for the next four years,” said the Congress Director.

“Morocco is ready to obtain partner for local democracy status.  The members of the Congress look forward to seeing you in Strasbourg,” he said in conclusion.

The Rabat parliamentary colloquy is part of the Congress’s programme of co-operation with Morocco aimed at supporting and strengthening the country’s current local and regional governance reforms.

It brought together members of the Chamber of Representatives and the Chamber of Councillors of the Parliament of Morocco, members of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, representatives of the government, Moroccan associations of local and regional elected representatives and Moroccan and European experts.
