At the invitation of Mrs Irene Dourou, Governor of the Attica region in Greece and member of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, President Jean-Claude Frécon and Congress rapporteurs will visit refugee reception sites and a logistics centre from 6-8 September 2016.

The aim of the visit is to examine the measures implemented by the Attica region to manage the refugee situation and prepare a report on the role of cities and regions on the reception and integration of refugees and migrants. The report is to be submitted to the Congress for adoption in March 2017.

A working group of 21 members from 14 countries has been created to facilitate exchanges between members of Congress, including Mrs Irène Douro and experts and representatives of NGOs active in this field.
