DDDGGA Steering Committee approves timetable for awarding small grants to Armenian municipalities

The Steering Committee of the Democratic Development, Decentralisation and Good Governance in Armenia project today (27/11/2019) approved a plan of activities for 2020 that includes piloting the e-learning course on the 12 Principles of Good Governance in Armenia and the awarding of grants to several consolidated communities in Armenia. Communities have until Friday 6 December 2019 to submit project applications for small grants to support the renovation or development of community facilities; the preparation or establishment of inter-municipal cooperation agreements; and the provision of material to support live webcasting/ podcasting of council meetings.

Steering Committee members took note of the activity report for 2019 and acknowledged the important role the Council of Europe continues to play in supporting democratic development in Armenia. Cooperation and coordination with other international actors in Armenia is important and the synergies developed with the LoGoPro project were welcomed. Noting that neighbouring Georgia has just assumed chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, opportunities to explore cross-border cooperation among municipalities in Armenia and Georgia should be explored.

This Project, funded by Austrian Development Cooperation and launched in the context of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Armenia 2019-2022, will run until the end of 2021 and has a budget of 1.5 million EUR.
