Secretary General Jagland on official visit to Slovakia

Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland will make an official visit to the Slovak Republic on 16 and 17 October.

The Secretary General will hold meetings in Bratislava with President Andrej Kiska, Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Justice Gábor Gál and Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Andrej Danko.

Topics on the agenda of the meetings are the current situation of the Council of Europe, including with regard to Russia and Turkey, and domestic issues such as the challenges faced in the integration of Roma.

On 16 October Secretary General Jagland, together with Prime Minister Pellegrini, will travel to the town of Spišský Hrhov to visit several projects aimed at the integration of Roma. Accompanied by the Mayor of Spišský Hrhov, Vladimír Ledecký, they will visit a municipal firm, a primary school and a model house.

On 17 October the Secretary General will visit and lay a wreath on Alexander Dubček’s grave in “Slávičie údolie” Cemetery.

Secretary General Jagland and Foreign Affairs Minister Lajčák will make statements to the media at 9.10 a.m. on Tuesday 16 October, just after their meeting at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
