Getting young people to vote: Training for trainers - ‘Vote outside the box’ - was delivered to election officials and young leaders

On 16 May, an online training of trainers - Vote outside the box’ - was delivered to election officials, young leaders and representatives of civil society organisations. The training was co-organised with the Supreme Election Council of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara.

Promoting active engagement of youth, first-time voters and young leaders in electoral processes is a high priority for the Council of Europe. To encourage involvement of youth in decision-making and enhance their impact on democratisation processes, effective and targeted awareness raising measures have to be in place.

Through this training, participants were empowered with a deep understanding of awareness raising measures, their types, and potential objectives. During group works, participants discussed necessity of a strategic approach, i.e., while developing a profile for potential youth first-time voters, and a clear vision of short- and long-term perspectives. Practical recommendations were shared related to successful public communication and marketing campaigns.

The training of trainers was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project ‘Supporting Transparency, Inclusiveness and Integrity of Electoral Practice and Process in Georgia’.
