Webinar on

On 27 April the ICC programme organised a webinar on "Intercultural approach to Roma and Travellers inclusion for the local level".

Prepared in co-ordination with the Council of Europe’s Roma and Travellers team, the webinar presented the experience of municipal representatives and Roma and Traveller activists in using some of the Council of Europe’s best practice including: the role of mediators in creating bridges across communities; community participation; and participatory budgeting.

The aim of the webinar was to shed light on some of the main challenges to the intercultural inclusion of Roma, including:

  • Increasing trust in public institutions;
  • Increasing institutions knowledge about the community, its diversity, needs and barriers;
  • Increasing confidence and capacity in the community to participate in decision making;
  • Including the Roma and Traveller community in intercultural activities and events.

The webinar provided Intercultural Cities’ members and other participants with information on existing tools for Roma and Travellers’ inclusion and started a discussion on how to use them through an intercultural lens.

During the webinar local authorities that are members of the Intercultural Cities programme also shared their experience on how they have addressed some of the barriers to intercultural inclusion of Roma and Travellers.
