Resources for NGOs and teachers working with adult migrants

The Council of Europe has developed the toolkit Language support for adult refugees (available in seven languages) to support member states in their efforts to respond to the challenges posed by unprecedented migration flows in Europe since 2015. The Toolkit is designed to assist organisations, and especially volunteers, providing language support for adult refugees. It comprises 57 online tools and other resources that can be downloaded and adapted to meet the needs of different contexts.

Most of the tools respond to the needs of the members states currently receiving migrants from the war crises in Ukraine.

Nine Council of Europe tools to help those providing language support to children arriving from Ukraine

The Council of Europe has developed a set of tools to support member states in their efforts to respond to the challenges faced by those who are providing language support to children arriving from Ukraine as the children adjust to their new environment and their new schools. Some of these tools have been written recently with this purpose in mind.
The tools have been created and selected as being especially useful in the early stages of language support with newly arriving refugee children. They are designed to assist organisations, teachers and volunteers who are providing language support for refugee children arriving from Ukraine with no knowledge, or very little knowledge, of the language of the new country.

The project aims to support the linguistic integration of migrant and refugee children in schools and local communities in their hosting countries. The role of the different stakeholders including teachers, school management and other staff, civil society organisations, local communities in the integration process will be carefully considered, in line with the guidelines to be developed as a part of the work of the Education Policy Division, closely connected to this project.

The project is included in the Council of Europe Action Plan on Protecting Vulnerable Persons in the Context of Migration and Asylum in Europe (2021-2025) under Pillar 3 "Human rights and democracy: fostering democratic participation and enhancing inclusion".
