The Council of Europe project “Strengthening Media Freedom, Internet Governance and Personal Data Protection in Georgia (SMIP-GE)” aims at enhancing media, internet and personal data protection landscape in Georgia through improved legislation and policy as well as increased capacity of key stakeholders to confront challenges in line with human rights principles.

All project activities are implemented in consultation and co-operation with the relevant public authorities, national and international consultants, academia and civil society.

Project objectives:

The main objectives of the project in respect of data protection are:
  • Further alignment of Georgian legislation and practice, including in respect of the use of algorithms, with the relevant Council of Europe and international standards.
  • Fostering the ratification of the Convention 108+ through enhanced legislation and stakeholder commitment.
  • Supporting the State Inspector's Service, in particular for developing their strategy and action plan concerning personal data protection in the light of algorithmic solutions.
