On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), a conference will be held to take stock of its action and the progress achieved in Europe in the fight against racism and intolerance, but also to develop responses to new challenges in this field.

Organised under the French Presidency of the Committee of Ministers, the conference will be opened on Thursday 26 September at 1.30 p.m. by Amélie de Montchalin, Secretary of State in charge of European Affairs of France , and other high-level representatives of the Council of Europe.

On 26 September (9.30-12 a.m.), a seminar will also bring together government focal points on LGBTI people to discuss ways to combat hate speech and homophobic and transphobic violence. An update will be given on the implementation by Member States of the Recommendation of the Committee of Ministers against discrimination on the grounds of Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity - first international legal instrument in this field.

Both events will take place on the Ségur-Fontenoy site (20 avenue de Ségur, Paris 7e). Prior accreditation must first be obtained before Wednesday 25 September at 11 a.m.
