With Andorra, 20 ratifications for Convention 108+

Today, 18 october 2022, in the presence of the Deputy Secretary General,  Ambassador Joan Forner Rovira, Permanent Representative of Andorra to the Council of Europe, deposited the instruments of ratification of the Amending Protocol to the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to the Processing of Personal Data (CETS 223).

Andorra has been Party to Convention 108 since 1 September 2008; it became today the 20th state to ratify the modernised Convention 108 (Convention 108+).

18 ratifications are still necessary for the entry into force of Convention 108+. Let’s wish that more States will soon follow suit for this fundamental Convention to cross this crucial threshold, as is the landmark instrument aiming at ensuring appropriate protection that an individual would seek to have in an ever-expanding digital era, in order to safeguard dignity and an intimate private sphere, and to fully enjoy the right to informational self-determination.
