Penitentiary and probation staff gain knowledge on revised Risk and Needs Assessment Tool before piloting

In a notable step forward within the "Strengthening the Probation Service in Armenia" Project, probation and penitentiary officers participated in a joint, intensive skill-based training on the revised Risk and Needs Assessment (RNA) tool from 8 to 10 November 2023 in Tsaghkadzor․

The event equipped officers with essential competencies crucial for the forthcoming piloting phase of the tool. The training encompassed sessions on RNA principles, piloting expectations, and practical exercises addressing static, historical, and dynamic factor assessments. Through hands-on role-play scenarios emphasizing interview techniques, the officers gained practical experience for daily application.

The probation and penitentiary officers are now ready not only to use the revised RNA tool but also to take part in the validation study together with Council of Europe consultants aiming at further improvement of the tool.

This event is part of the Council of Europe’s support within the framework of the Project "Strengthening the Probation Service in Armenia" that assists the national authorities in facilitating the use of probation services in the country, thus enhancing community safety and the fair administration of justice. The Project is financed within the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Armenia 2023-2026 and implemented by the Council of Europe.

The Council of Europe is the continent’s leading human rights organisation, with 46 member states, including Armenia. All our member states are party to the European Convention on Human Rights, which is the cornerstone of human rights protection in Europe.
