Matthew Caruana Galizia is a journalist and software engineer. He worked at the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) on six major investigations: Offshore Leaks, Swiss Leaks, Luxembourg Leaks, Fatal Extraction, Panama Papers, and Paradise Papers. ICIJ and its partners won the Pulitzer Prize for explanatory reporting in 2017. Daphne, Matthew’s mother, was assassinated in Malta in 2017 and Matthew left the organisation to set up The Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation, which is dedicated to achieving justice for his mother.
