The Italian Senate hosts a conference on the Istanbul Convention

On 10 May 2021, the Senate of the Italian Republic will discuss the role of universities in combating gender-based violence. Opening the event will be President of the Senate, Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, with a video message.

The meeting has been called to mark the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, also known as the Istanbul Convention. This will be the focus of the second panel, at which will participate the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, and the former President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Michele Nicoletti.

It will be possible to follow the event online, in live streaming on channel 3 at the link: https://webtv.senato.it

To mark the anniversary, the Council of Europe has opened an online portal showing how the Convention has inspired change in the legislation and policies of European States, available at the following link: 10 years of the Istanbul Convention (coe.int)
