The Ecomuesums celebrate their 50th anniversary discussing Landscapes and Communities

Landscape Week began on 21 June, the initiative is part of a series of events “Ecomuseums are Landscape” promoted by the Italian Ecomuseum Network. The program will continue with many initiatives organized from June 28 to September 30 by the regional networks, entitled “Landscape seen by ecomuseums”. It will end in the fall with three round-tables focused on the role of ecomuseums in relation to the climate crisis, the European Landscape Convention and the National Museum’s System.

During Landscape Week, which ends on 25 June, more than thirty ecomuseums and landscape professionals will reflect on new models of local development and practices of environmental and landscape sustainability, as well as the role landscape can play for communities. Luisella Pavan-Woolfe, Head of the Italian office of the Council of Europe, participated in a round table that discussed “Community and landscape: what relationship?” on the opening day of Landscape week.

This proves to be an opportunity, 50 years after the birth of the ecomuseum concept, to discuss again about landscape as a common good, and to focus on the opportunities offered by the instruments promoted by the Council of Europe, such as the Faro Convention, Heritage Walks, and the European Landscape Convention.
