Last April, the Council of Europe certified five new European cultural routes, bringing the programme to 45 in total. These include the Aeneas Route, which retraces Aneas’ journey as narrated by the Latin poet Virgil, to discover a heritage of archaeological, religious, artistic and natural value.

The Trojan hero's journey crosses five countries (Turkey, Greece, Albania, Tunisia and Italy) and five regions in Italy (Apulia, Sicily, Calabria, Campania and Lazio), to end up in Rome, city symbol of the Mediterranean culture.

The Aeneas Route brings to eight the number of certified European routes based in Italy and to 28 the number of those crossing the peninsula.
