A new book explores

On 20 May, the Italian office of the Council of Europe presented the volume “Violence against women's health in international law” by Sara De Vido, published by Manchester University Press.

The book explores the relationship between violence against women on the one hand, and health and reproductive health rights on the other. De Vido argues that the violation of the right to health is a consequence of gender-based violence, and that public health policies could both cause and create the conditions for acts of violence against women.

Claudia Luciani, Director of Human Dignity, Equality and Governance of the Council of Europe, spoke of the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, also known as the Istanbul Convention, ten years after its signature. Ratified to date by 34 states and signed by 12, this treaty is the first legally binding international instrument that creates a comprehensive legal framework to protect women against all forms of gender violence.
