A completely different picture: women and children narrate the war

On 30 March at Ateneo Veneto Raffaella Calgaro presented her book "Tutta un'altra storia. The Great War told by women and children". The event was organised by the Italian office of the Council of Europe in collaboration with the Ca' Foscari University, the Veneto Regional School Office, and the Venice City Council's Europe Direct.

The book deals with the theme of war, which redefines rules and values and erases the identity of the people living close to the conflict. Calgaro describes the human tragedy that befell men and women when the Great War entered their homes, devastating family ties and forcing them to leave. Women, old people and children, catapulted to the front line, become the helpless and silent protagonists trying to escape from violence in search of peace.

The event was attended by author Raffaella Calgaro, Luisella Pavan-Woolfe, Director of the Italian office of the Council of Europe, Francesca Vianello, Head of the Europe Direct office of the Municipality of Venice, Laura Donà, Director of the Ministry of Education - Regional School Office for Veneto and Eugenia Sainz, Delegate of the Department of Comparative Linguistic and Cultural Studies for the Third Mission, Cà Foscari University of Venice.
