Support to Electoral Reform in Albania on political party and election campaign fundin

On 8th May, the joint European Union/Council of Europe Action against Economic Crime (AEC-AL) supported the workshop of the Ad-hoc Committee on Electoral Reform focusing on Political party and campaign financing. The workshop served as a venue to introduce a comprehensive package of legal recommendations pertaining to the Law on Political Parties and Electoral Code.

In addition to the members of the Ad-Hoc Committee on Electoral Reform, the event was attended by members of Central Election Commission, Technical Group of Experts of the Ad-Hoc Committee, representatives from civil society organisations, OSCE/ODIHR and other international partners.

Participants exchanged views on topics pertaining to definitions and concepts, state subsidies and assistance, regulation of income from private sources, expenditure and campaign activities, record-keeping and disclosure; misuse of public resources, election campaign monitoring, independent audit, competencies of the Central Election Commission and sanctions.

The conclusions from this event will help the Committee to achieve a decision-making based on a comprehensive package of policy options and amendments. The Action against Economic Crime in Albania will further support the work of the Committee in addressing the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations concerning the use of state resources for election campaign purposes and vote buying-selling.
