State Advocate staff seconded to the Department for the Execution of the European Court of Human Rights' judgments

Harmonisation of court legislation and practice with the standards imposed by the European Court of Human Rights (the Court) is a fundamental precondition for ensuring legal certainty and the overall protection of human rights in the member states.

In this context, the joint European Union/Council of Europe action “Supporting effective domestic remedies and facilitating the execution of ECtHR judgments in Albania” is supporting Albanian judiciary in harmonising the national case-law with that of the Court as well as institutional capacities of the State Advocate Office.

To this effect, two lawyers from the State Advocate have been seconded for one month each to the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. These placement opportunities will enhance the capacities of the State Advocate to monitor the harmonisation of domestic legal regulations with the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights and the Court's case-law, and thus provide additional strength to the protection of human rights in Albania.
