Legal education plays an essential role in preparing the next generation of lawyers, judges and prosecutors, therefore it is of utmost importance that legal professionals are taught human rights from the beginning of their educational cycle. The joint European Union/Council of Europe Action “Supporting effective domestic remedies and facilitating the execution of the European Court of Human Right judgments” is supporting inclusion of practical human rights education in regular programme of Albanian Universities and thus enabling law students to promote, defend and apply human rights in daily life.

In close cooperation with the civil society organisations, the Action is currently delivering three comprehensive courses for law students of Tirana University and “Aleksander Moisiu” University on:

  • Practical application of the European Convention on Human Rights,
  • Right to fair trial proceedings and reopening of criminal proceedings,
  • Protection of the right to peaceful enjoyment of property.

The developed modules will enhance theoretical and practical knowledge of students on the European Convention on Human Rights and the Strasbourg’s Court case law, as well as provide them with a better understanding of human rights application law in a current national context. The courses have started and will be delivered until the end of April.
