Albanian Media Council (AMC) organized a two-day training on privacy in media coverage, rights and responsibilities of journalists based on local legal framework and journalistic Code of Ethics. The activity took place in Vlore, Albania, on 7-8 November 2018.

The journalists were acquainted among other things with the revised Albanian Journalistic Code of Ethics and the self-regulation work of AMC. International experts presented the Council of Europe legal framework on privacy and freedom of the press as well as landmark cases on privacy by the European Court of Human Rights. The liveliest section of the training was group work on select cases where journalists had to make decisions on publishing information and photos in view of safeguarding privacy and upholding ethical journalism.

The Information and Data Protection Commissioner, Mr Besnik Dervishi, participated by presenting the legal framework how privacy is safeguarded in Albania, the right of media to access public information as foreseen in the law and the work of the Commissioners’ office to assist with cases of information denial.

The activities of the Albanian Media Council are supported under the European Union/Council of Europe joint project "Strengthening Judicial Expertise on Freedom of Expression and Media in South East Europe (JUFREX)".
