Training Seminars on Prevention and Treatment of Transmissible Diseases and Drug-Related Problems

The Council of Europe capacitated about 60 medical staff from 12 prisons of Tirana, Lezhe,  Krujë, Fushë Krujë, Peqin, Rrogozhine, Lushnje, Fier and Vlore on  prevention and treatment of transmissible diseases and drug-related problems. The training seminars organised in Tirana and Fier for this purpose, focused on introducing CoE and CPT standards regarding common transmissible diseases such as HIV, Turbeculosis and Hepatitis.

Doctors, nurses and dentists increased their knowledge and exchanged good practices on management of drug-related problems including mental health issues with each other and the international experts. The head of Health Sector of the Prison Administration provided an overview of the most crucial challenges and priorities on screening/treatment of patients with transmissible diseases and drug-issues in the Albanian prison system.

The training seminars were organised within the scope of the Action “Enhancing the protection of human rights of prisoners in Albania” co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe as part of the ‘Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey’.
