Supporting effective implementation of human rights legislation in Albania

Harmonisation of judicial practice in relation to property rights in Albania, the role of the Albanian courts in the implementation of the law on treatment of property, reopening of civil and criminal proceedings and the length of court proceedings, were at the focus of a 2-day seminar with judges of first instance, appeal and administrative courts of Korça, Pogradec and Elbasan districts.

The event is part of a series of thematic trainings organized in co-operation with the High Judicial Council and the Albanian School of Magistrates with the view to improving understanding and effective implementation of the European Court of Human Rights’s case law relevant to Albania. The Chair of High Judicial Council Naureda Llagami and the Head of the Council of Europe Office Jutta Gützkow attended the activity, sharing with legal professionals in the field important information on Council of Europe and international standards.

The regional outreach was organized in the framework of the Action Supporting enforcement of the judicial decisions and facilitating the execution of ECtHR judgements in Albania” funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe in the framework of the programme Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022.
