Improving the relationship between the media and the judiciary in Albania

The relationship between the judiciary and the media in the context of the justice reform was in the focus of a workshop on 8-9 February 2018 led by Brigitte Koppenhöfer, an international expert of the European Commission on the Efficiency of the Justice System (CEPEJ).

By sharing European good practices with judges, prosecutors, lawyers and representatives of the media the workshop helped to increase the transparency of justice, the quality of reporting of judicial cases by the media, and the public trust in both media and judiciary.  Practical training sessions with exercises aimed to improve press releases, courts' websites, and communications around highly sensitive cases. Beneficiaries and partners expressed the need for 'communications guidelines'. Recommendations in this respect will be prepared and discussed with Albanian authorities in follow-up activities.

This activity took place under the Action "Strengthening the efficiency and quality of the justice system in Albania - SEJ II", which is part of the programme entitled "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey", co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe.
