Fake ≠ Fact campaign launched in Tirana

The project Strengthening Democratic Citizenship Education in Albania introduces in Tirana the Swedish Institute initiative Fake ≠ Fact, which was launched today through the exhibition with the same name aiming to raise young people’s awareness and media literacy in an increasingly flooded world of information. The exhibition is designed to expose the young people to various innovative and practical tools in dealing with false and misleading information.

Opening the event, the Head of CoE office in Tirana, Jutta Gützkow, and the Swedish Ambassador in Tirana, Elsa Halstad, underlined that the spread of false information can have disastrous effects on both individuals and society as a whole. Deputy Minister of Education, Nina Guga, stressed the importance of democratic competencies to identify and counter the fake narratives, whilst, Deputy Mayor of Tirana, Keti Luarasi, praised the active youth participation and role in promoting democratic and human rights values.

The exhibition Fake ≠ Fact Info Lab will stay for another week in Tirana before reaching young people in other Albanian cities. A video contest on the same subject will feature the campaign and will be promoted in various media channels.

The campaign takes place in the context of the Council of Europe’s project Strengthening Democratic Citizenship Education in Albania funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
