On 28-29 June, the Council of Europe organised a two-day training for legal professionals on effective investigation and prosecution of crimes of violence against women and domestic violence.  . The training covered international and European framework on violence against women and domestic violence, including the Istanbul Convention, as well as best practice examples.

The training opened the floor for a discussion on legislative gaps and existing challenges that Georgian legal professionals face in practice. The training also served the purpose of developing uniform approach and understanding among professionals of various legal issues, such as the admissibility of evidence, case building, victim retraction, victim-sensitive and oriented approaches, and establishing the coordinated response to violence against women.

The event is a continuation of a series of successful co-operation activities between the Council of Europe and Georgian authorities in the area of preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.

The meeting was held in the framework of the project ‘’Preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence in Georgia”.
