On 29 October the Council of Europe launched a two-year project “Juvenile and Adult Detainees Support (JADES) together with its main partners the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Inspector’s Service and the Office of Public Defender to reinforce the human rights of the adult and the juvenile detainees in the justice system and improve their treatment.

Through cooperation with the partner organisations, the project aims at achieving the following goals: better management of the detainees in the Temporary Detention Isolators in line with European standards; preparation of Police officers and the investigators to work with the juvenile victims as well as juvenile offenders; support the national monitoring bodies (Office of Public Defender and the State Inspector’s Service) and civil society organisations to participate in the monitoring of human rights protection by the police and the investigative authorities.

Cristian Urse, the Head of the Council of Europe in Georgia; Nino Javakhadze, Deputy Minister of Interior; Londa Toloraia, State Inspector and Tamar Gvaramadze, Deputy Public Defender have addressed their opening remarks to the audience.

The project will work in close cooperation with the Ministry of Interior through the following agencies and department: Department of the Temporary Detention Isolators, Human Rights Protection and Quality Monitoring Department, Academy of the Ministry of Interior; the Public Defender's Office, National Prevention Mechanism, State Inspector’s Service and civil society organisations.
