Improvement of health-care monitoring in the temporary detention isolators

On 24-25 February 2020, representatives of the Department of Temporary Detention of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia (TDI) and the Council of Europe (CoE) discussed the draft monitoring instrument of health-care service delivery in the temporary detention isolators (TDI).

Prepared with the contribution of CoE international and local consultants, the draft monitoring instrument aims at provision of effective monitoring mechanisms for the health-care service delivery, through the control of the implementation of the existing legal requirements, qualification of the medical staff, protection of the rights of detainees, proper maintenance of medical records and other related issues.

The final document will be presented to the MIA for its adoption by a Ministerial Order.

This activity was organised within the framework of the CoE Project “Juvenile and Adult Detainees Support” (JADES) which is designed to address the issues related to the rights of detained persons and their treatment; crimes committed by/against juveniles; effective remedies against police misconduct and effective investigation of the alleged ill-treatment.
