Enhancing the Georgian Police’s Capacity in Juvenile Justice Matters

On 17 February 2020, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia (MIA) and the Council of Europe (CoE) discussed the draft guidelines to improve the institutional and professional capacity of both police officers and investigators to work with juveniles.

Prepared with the contribution of CoE experts, the draft guidelines aim at elaborating professional development programmes and quality-monitoring mechanisms of improving the recruitment and better coordinating the assignment of the staff specialised in juvenile-related questions to MIA territorial units.

The final document will be presented to the MIA for its adoption by Ministerial Order.

This activity was organised within the framework of the CoE Project “Juvenile and Adult Detainees Support” (JADES) which is designed to address the issues related to the rights of detained persons and their treatment; crimes committed by/against juveniles; effective remedies against police misconduct and effective investigation of the alleged ill-treatment.

We work together to promote Human rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law!
