Working towards the improvement of antidiscrimination legislation

New initiatives focusing on the improvement of antidiscrimination legislation were raised and discussed today at the working meeting co-hosted by Council of Europe and Ministry of Internal Affairs. The main objective of the meeting was to provide a platform to the NGOs for sharing information on the deficiencies of the legislation and ideas for reforming it.

During the meeting the baseline study of the cooperation project “Fight against Discrimination, Hate Crimes and Hate Speech in Georgia” on the anti-discrimination legislation and policies in Georgia was presented and the suggestions and proposals towards bringing the Georgian legislation in line with ECRI recommendations were discussed.

The meeting gathered representatives of state institutions, NGOs and Public Defender’s Office.  It is anticipated that the meeting will serve as a preparatory stage for important legislative initiatives.

The working meeting is in line with the  objective of the Co-operation Project “Fight against Discrimination, Hate Crimes and Hate Speech in Georgia” to assist Georgia in improving the antidiscrimination legislation implemented under the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2016-2019.
