The winners of the Winter School of Justice 2019 will visit international institutions for the educational purposes

The closing ceremony of the Winter School of Justice 2019 took place on 28 February in Borjomi, Georgia, awarding four most successful participants.

The winners of the Winter School will visit the Council of Europe Headquarters in Strasbourg, the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, and United States’ judicial bodies.

The Winter School of Justice aims at enhancing the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills of participants, involving around 30 judicial assistants, representatives of court analytical units, judicial interns, and graduating law school students.

“This project is vitally important for the Judiciary. The generation needs to be changed and the newcomers need to be ready to cope with the difficulties and emotional pressure that characterizes the work within the Judiciary “, - said Acting Chief Justice Mzia Todua.

Secretary of the High Council of Justice Giorgi Mikautdze noted the importance of the school: “The Winter School is an outstanding project supported by donor organisations, where the staff of the judiciary has a great opportunity to enhance theoretical knowledge in the various fields with the help of qualified experts”.

These positive highlights create an opportunity for the continuation of the program.

The School of Justice was organised for the third time with the support of the Council of Europe, EU4Justice project, USAID/PROLoG project “Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia”, UNICEF, UNDP and UNHCHR in the scope of EU/UN joint programmes implemented in cooperation with the Supreme Court, the High School of Justice, and the High Council of Justice.

The activity was co-organised by the Council of Europe project “Support to the Judicial Reform in Georgia”, funded by voluntary contributions of Bulgaria, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Norway, the Slovak Republic and Sweden to support the implementation of the Council of Europe Action plan for Georgia 2016-2019.
