Discrimination prevention mechanisms discussed with insurance companies

The Council of Europe together with the Public Defender’s Office initiated cooperation with the private sector to promote prevention of discrimination and protection of equality inside the companies and  the services they provide.

In the framework of this cooperation, the Council of Europe, the Public Defender’s Office and the Insurance State Supervision Service of Georgia organised a training for the representatives of the insurance companies on the right to equality and prevention of discrimination. The training aimed at discussing the national and international standards of equality and non-discrimination, to reflect on the prevention mechanisms recommended by the Public Defender’s Office and the Council of Europe. The discriminatory practices in insurance companies were also reviewed and assessed.

This is the first ever meeting with the private sector on equality and non-discrimination policies organised by the Council of Europe Office in Georgia. It is foreseen to organise other series of meetings with different businesses, such as the hospitality and banking sectors, in order to contribute to the alignment of the non-discriminatory policies of the private sector to European standards.

This activity is implemented in the framework of the Project “Promoting the Effective Protection of Equality and Non-Discrimination in Georgia.” The Project is funded through the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2020-2023.
