A comprehensive study on the best European practices of the independent investigative mechanisms, conducted for the State Inspector’s Service of Georgia was presented on 13 July 2020.
The study was initiated with the aim to carry out comparative analyses of best European practices of the independent investigative mechanisms to provide valuable information and recommendations for future institutional strengthening and development of the Georgian State Inspector’s Service.
The document includes the following main chapters:
- Mandate, Jurisdiction and Interaction with other prosecutorial and Investigation bodies;
- Guarantees for efficient functioning (investigation);
- Mechanisms for receiving complaints and engagement with victims and witnesses;
- Institutional settings, recruitment and capacity-building of investigators;
- Accountability, measuring impact and public communication.
This activity was organised within the framework of the CoE Project “Juvenile and Adult Detainees Support” (JADES) which is designed to address the issues related to the rights of detained persons and their treatment; crimes committed by/against juveniles; effective remedies against police misconduct and effective investigation of the alleged ill-treatment.
