On 6-7 December, the Council of Europe organised a second two-day training for legal professionals on practical aspects of investigation and prosecution of crimes of violence against women and domestic violence.  The training covered international and European legal framework on violence against women and domestic violence, including the Council of Europe Istanbul Convention, case-law of the European Court of Human Rights and promising practices from other countries.

During the training representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, specialised prosecutors and judges discussed the importance of a victim-centered and gender-sensitive approach and assessed the extent to which national legislation and practice mirror the obligations stemming from the Istanbul Convention. Moreover, with the help of practical case-studies, participants had the possibility to directly apply the acquired knowledge and skills to given scenarios and reflect on their own attitudes and values.

The training was held in the framework of the project ‘’Preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence in Georgia”.
