The Council of Europe and the European Union, together with the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Georgian Bar Association and the Supreme Court of Georgia organised meeting with judges, prosecutors, and lawyers to discuss the main challenges faced by legal professionals in application of  pre-trial measures.

The Council of Europe consultants presented main findings of an expert opinion on compatibility with the European standards of Georgia’s Criminal Procedure Code related to the system of pre-trial measures and highlighted the need for further legislative changes stemming from the execution of the European Court of Human Rights decisions.

The participants also shared ideas about further improvement of practice and respective legal frameworks and offered specific recommendations. 

The meeting was organised in the framework of the Project "Supporting the criminal justice reforms - tackling criminal aspects of the judicial reforms in Georgia", funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe in their Partnership for Good Governance (PGG II).
