Joint training on Investigation and Prosecution of Hate Crimes

On 4-5 June the Council of Europe held joint training for prosecutors and investigators on the investigation and prosecution of hate crimes.

The activity aimed at improving coordination between investigative and prosecution authorities and elaborating common approaches to fight hate crimes in Georgia. The training focused on advancing the practical skills of prosecutors and investigators to efficiently investigate and prosecute hate crimes and crimes committed on discriminatory grounds.

Training participants discussed challenges encountered in the application of the national legislative framework and International instruments on the investigation and prosecution of hate crimes and hate speech and overviewed the ways to improve existing practices.

The event was organised as part of the Council of Europe co-operation project “Fighting Discrimination, Hate Crime and Hate Speech in Georgia”. The project is conducted with the support of the Danish Neighbourhood Programme in Georgia (DANEP) under the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Georgia.
