Investigators and Prosecutors enhanced their knowledge on Interviewing Child Victims and Witnesses

Three day training session of trainers (ToT), organized by Council of Europe office in Georgia was attended by 14 representatives of the General Prosecutor's Office and Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

The purpose of the training is to deepen the knowledge about specifics of interviewing child victims/witnesses of sexual abuse and to equip the participants with practical skills.

Along with legal issues, the participants discussed matters of knowledge and experience in psychological science in regards to  child development and age characteristics, speech and communication skills, child's inspiration, imagination, memory, Possibilities of conveying what happened, traumatic impact of sexual abuse on children and its clinical manifestations.

Investigators taking outlined issues into consideration will minimize the likelihood of re-traumatizing the child during the interview, it will also ease process of gathering useful information from the child by investigators.

Participants of the training of trainers (ToT) will share their knowledge acquired through trainings and exercise-based user manual to their colleagues and other professionals involved in the field.

Training was conducted within the framework of  the Council of Europe’s project: Ensuring child-friendly justice in Georgia: preventing and protecting children from violence, including in the digital environment
