Improving the functioning of High Council of Justice in Georgia

A delegation of the High Council of Justice in Georgia paid a study visit to the Council of Europe headquarters on 26-28 November.

The purpose of the three-day study visit was to improve the knowledge on the functioning of the High Council of Justice by introducing the delegation to major bodies of the organization involved in supporting the judicial reform in the Council of Europe Member States, specifically in Georgia; exchanging views on the major issues of the judicial reform in the country.

The delegation consisted of judge and non-judge members of the High Council of Justice, including the Secretary and the Acting Chairperson of the institution.

In addition, the delegation had the opportunity to attend a Grand Chamber hearing at the European Court of Human Rights.

The three-day study visit was organized by the Council of Europe project “Support to the Judicial Reform in Georgia” funded by the voluntary contributions of Bulgaria, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Norway, the Slovak Republic, and Sweden to support the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2016-2019.
