Establishing a media literacy network

On 4 June the Council of Europe and the Georgian National Communications Commission co-organised the workshop "Media Literacy: Georgian perspective", within the framework of the project "Supporting Freedom of Media and Internet in Georgia".

The workshop brought together representatives of main stakeholders in the field of media literacy in Georgia, namely, the Regulatory and State bodies, civil society, academia and media. National stakeholders presented their work and initiatives in the field of media literacy and discussed the possibilities of future cooperation and coordination.

The Council of Europe experts shared European best practices about successful media literacy programmes. The main outcome of the workshop is an agreement reached between all stakeholders to establish a media literacy network, which will serve to coordinate efforts to increase skills and knowledge of the general public in Georgia to make informed choices about media content and use of the internet.
