Discussion of Draft Legal Amendments within the Framework of the Legislative Reform Working Group of the Georgian Bar Association

With the support of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia the Georgian Bar Association management and members discussed draft legal amendments related to legal acts affecting professional activity of lawyers.

 

The changes are proposed to the ‘Law of Georgia on Lawyers’ aimed at eliminating existing legal gaps, improving protection of clients’ interests and better protection of confidential information. Opinion on draft amendments to the Law were developed by the Council of Europe International Expert.

 

To improve the quality legal assistance and protection of lawyers, amendments are also proposed to the “Civil Procedure Code”, “Law on Administrative Offenses”, “Criminal Procedure Code”, “Law on State Duty”, “Law of Georgia on Notaries” and the “Law on Personal Data Protection”. The Georgian Bar Association plans to present the finalized version of draft amendments to the Parliament.

 

The activity was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Support to the Profession of Lawyer in Georgia”, implemented with the support of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, France, Netherlands, Liechtenstein,  Latvia, the Human Rights Trust Fund, and the Fund to End Violence Against Children.
