Council of Europe and the European Union continue their support to build capacities of Georgian prosecutors and investigators to tackle economic crime

A training session on “Liability of Legal Persons” for Georgian prosecutors takes place on 28-29 June 2018, in Tbilisi. The activity is a follow-up to the trainings organized in 2015 and 2016 on the same topic and is complementary to the cooperation with representatives of Chief Prosecutor’s Office on developing a Manual on Liability of Legal Persons in Georgia.

The manual was prepared as a guide and reference for use by practitioner prosecutors and investigators in Georgia aiming to facilitate an effective enforcement of the legislative framework. It contains commentary on pertinent provisions of the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code of Georgia.

Training program was developed based on questions provided by Georgian prosecutors and investigators.. Accordingly, during the meeting participants will have the opportunity to discuss with the Council of Europe expert various issues including attribution of criminal liability to legal entities (different approaches), mechanisms of investigating corporate criminal liability, organizing corporate risk management, sanctions and sentencing practices  in corporate punishment, alternatives to criminal proceeding, inheritance of corporate liability as well as importance of supranational corporate liability regimes.

The event is attended by the representatives of Prosecutors Office of Georgia including prosecutors and investigators from different regions of the country.
