On Tuesday, 15 February, at the online closing event of the Project “Fight against discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes in Georgia”, the Council of Europe Office in Georgia will present the project’s results and the main findings of the study “Hate Speech, Hate Crimes and Discrimination in Georgia: Attitudes and Awareness in 2021” conducted as part of the project.

The project’s four years of work will be summarised in a short film. Representatives of the project partners, the Council of Europe and the Danish Cooperation programme DANEP will discuss with representatives of partner institutions, embassies and civil society organisations the key outcomes of the project.

Notably, a study on the public’s attitudes in Georgia towards hate speech, hate crimes and discrimination, including a comparison of the findings between 2018 and 2021, will be presented. The study was conducted by CRRC Georgia under the project.

The study analyses the degree of awareness and appreciation of diversity in the Georgian society; the trends in the protection of minorities and vulnerable groups; occurrence of discrimination, hate crime and hate speech in the Georgian society and who it affects; Georgian legislation against discrimination, hate crime, and hate speech; existing redress mechanisms and their effectiveness; different actors’ work in this field.

The event will be held online on Tuesday, 15 February 2022, from 14:00 to 16:00. English-Georgian interpretation will be provided. Media interested in following the event should request the link from the contact person below.
