Access to social and economic rights and integration related services for refugees*and stateless persons in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia

On 10 October 2019 in Tbilisi, Georgia, the Secretariat of the European Social Charter and the Legal Co-operation Division participated in a regional round table on Access to integration related services for refugees and stateless persons in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. The round table was organised jointly by the Council of Europe´s Division of Legal Co-operation and the Department of the European Social Charter, the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law- DG I, and the UNHCR. The round table addressed the challenges and implementation of solutions in this field as well as best practices from selected Council of Europe Member States in terms of good legal frameworks. The applicability of the European Social Charter in the integration of refugees and stateless persons was discussed as well as the role of the European Social Charter as a tool for protection of social and economic rights of refugees and stateless persons, including of undocumented migrant children.

This round table was the first of a series of joint Council of Europe and UNHCR legal capacity building events aimed at contributing to ending statelessness by 2024 as campaigned for by UNHCR in its #IBelong Campaign.
