Focal points network meeting, International migration law course and launch of new publication on child-friendly migration-related procedures

On 9 December 2019, in Belgrade, Serbia, on the occasion of the International Human Rights Week, together with UNICEF, the Office of the Special Representative on Migration and Refugees (SRSG) is going to launch the publication “Promoting child-friendly approaches in the area of migration: Standards, guidance and current practices”. Part of the Council of Europe Action Plan on protecting refugee and migrant children in Europe (2017-2019), some 40 emerging practices from 20 member states, the publication brings together international and European standards on child-friendly practices in the context of migration and addresses a wide range of issues, such as registration, age determination, protection, best interests of the child, education and the child’s participation in the migration decision making process.

On 28-29 November 2019, in Strasbourg, the Office of the Special Representative is organising a first meeting in the process of creating a network of focal points in relevant ministries of Council of Europe member states to address human rights challenges in the field of migration. The aim of the meeting is to exchange good practices and enhancing co-operation between the different stakeholders.

On 22 November 2019, in Sanremo, Italy, the Office of the Special Representative is going to make a presentation on the rights of migrant children during a five-day International Migration law course at the International Institute of Humanitarian Law. The course is designed for government officials, academia, representatives of international and nongovernmental organizations, as well as members of the civil society from Europe and around the world. The key objective of the Course is to equip government officials and those working in the migration field with an understanding of the international standards that are relevant for good governance of migration.
