On 12 November 2018, a delegation from the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) visited Budapest and the Röszke transit zone in Hungary. The visit was organised by the PACE Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons in the framework of the Assembly's Parliamentary Campaign to End Immigration Detention of Children. The delegation was led by Pierre-Alain Fridez (Switzerland, SOC), General Rapporteur on the Campaign. The participants exchanged views with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Defence Committee of the National Assembly, as well as with the officials in the Immigration and Asylum Office on the current situation of asylum seekers and migrants and particularly unaccompanied minors. After the meetings, the delegation visited the Röszke transit zone where it was also briefed by the UNHCR team present there.

On 5 December 2018, the Committee met in Paris where hearings took place on labour migration with Jean-Christophe Dumont, Head of the OECD International Migration Division, and on trafficking of refugees and migrants with Michaelle De Cock, Head of the ILO Research and Evaluation Unit and Ms Jesse Chase-Lubitz, Reporter at the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project OCCRP, USA (via videoconference). Discussions will continue on the situation on the Greek Islands, development cooperation and the consequences of Brexit for migration.
