Regional Conference for Judges, Prosecutors and Lawyers on freedom of expression: Right to privacy and good administration of justice

Within the scope of the Joint Project “Reinforcing Judicial Expertise on Freedom of Expression and the Media in South-East Europe (JUFREX)” co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe, a regional conference on freedom of expression and good administration of justice & right to privacy, was organised on 18 and 19 October 2018 in Skopje.

The conference gathered over 50 JUFREX trainers as participants, including judges, prosecutors and lawyers from around the region. The participants became familiar with the latest developments in the European court of human rights (ECtHR) case law on freedom of expression. Participants did also exchange, as JUFREX trainers, expertise on national cases related to Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which should improve their ability to train their peers in their respective countries.

The conference was facilitated by four international consultants: Mr Dirk Voorhoof, former Law Professor and media law expert specialised in freedom of expression; Ms Flutura Kusari, Legal Advisor on media issues at the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom; Mr Darian Pavli, newly elected Albanian Judge at the ECtHR; and Ms Konul Gasimova, former Lawyer at the ECtHR and currently independent consultant in the area of human rights.

“The views expressed therein can in no way be taken to reflect the official opinion of the European Union”
