A total of 260 prison staff from various penitentiary institutions throughout the country were familiarised with the new Code of Conduct for prison staff through participation at ten 1-day cascade training sessions organised in the course of April and May 2018. The main principles, guidelines and values incorporated in the Code, developed in line with the CoE Recommendation CM/Rec(2012)5 on the European Code of Ethics for Prison Staff, were presented and discussed during the events.
In addition, following the publication of the Code of Conduct for prison staff in the Official Gazette, a total of 1000 copies of the same were printed and disseminated to prison staff country-wide. The Directorate for Execution of Sanctions expressed commitment to ensure duly application of the Code of Conduct in the everyday work of the prison staff and to further disseminate awareness with a view of strengthening their professionalism and ensuring their duties are carried out in a non-discriminatory and impartial manner in accordance with national law and international standards.
The cascade training sessions were organised within the scope of the Action “Strengthening the protection of the rights of sentenced persons”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe within the “Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey” and implemented by the Council of Europe.
