Launching of the HELP online module on trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labour exploitation in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labour exploitation has been on the rise in Europe and globally. To strengthen the knowledge and capacity of professionals to detect and combat it, the Action "Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings in Bosnia and Herzegovina" launched on 20 April 2022, the new online training module on trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labour exploitation, developed by the Council of Europe’s HELP (Human Rights Education for Legal professionals) Programme.

Forty-four participants, who are judges, prosecutors, social workers, labour inspectors, law enforcement professionals and NGO representatives, expressed interest in following the online module. The module will be tutored by Ms Adisa Zahiragić, judge at the Cantonal Court Sarajevo and Ms Rebeka Kotlo, professor at the Faculty of Law at University “Džemal Bijedić” in Mostar in a period from April until June 2022.

The content of the module has been adjusted to the BiH legal framework and it contains European good practices and various exercises to learn how to combat trafficking for the purpose of labour exploitation. Few participants shared their previous experience in following HELP online courses, emphasizing its benefits and flexibility. The Action „Preventing and combating trafficking in human beings in Bosnia and Herzegovina“ has already supported the implementation of 3 general HELP courses on trafficking in human beings, resulting in 53 certified professionals.

The action “Preventing and combating trafficking in human beings in Bosnia and Herzegovina” is implemented under the joint European Union - Council of Europe programme ”Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
