Council of Europe intervention in the Kyrgyz Republic is based on request from Kyrgyz authorities and dependent predominantly on external funding. This ongoing intervention focuses on the electoral reform.

The Neighbourhood Co-operation Priorities document for the Kyrgyz Republic for 2015-2017 was approved by the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers on 4 February 2015. In November 2017, the document was extended until the end of 2019. It identifies a set of priority actions, notably in the field of the Rule of Law and will allow the strengthening of the Council of Europe involvement in the country in the years to come. It was a breakthrough in the region as this was the first comprehensive co-operation document with a country from Central Asia.
